________

Thanks to an insightful and knowledgeable host and friendly management, upon my arrival for the first time in East Hampton I almost immediately found myself setting up my easel on the flat stone beach outside of  Navy Beach , in Montauk, painting away under a glorious sky.

Initially I began a larger painting focusing on a scene of indulgent relaxation unfolding on the lounger nearest me in the umbrella shaded seating area on the beach, but after a few hours my attention was drawn to the water and felt I had to quickly capture the fleeting scene as a sailboat passed in the distance under a sun that had begun it’s descent and color-change.

The view, sans sailboat and sun, taken upon arrival.

This photo was shot just after completion of the painting as the sky began to catch fire in what would become a spectacular sunset.
