Paul Zepeda, Jeremy Penn and Ari Lankin will each be painting sculptures of Pakal for the Mayan Parade 2012 as part of the cultural initiative dubbed, “La Nueva Cara/ The New Face of Mexico”.

With an artistic vocabulary firmly rooted in humanity and it’s history, Paul intends to imbue his piece with subtle references to cultural history of both countries, as well as with symbols of hope for the future, creating a work that will allow for reflection and encouragement in the present.

The finished sculptures will be permanently displayed in prominent locations with high volumes of international traffic that the message may be spread around the globe.

Representing the United States, specifically New York City on the heels of the terribly destructive storm Sandy is especially poignant for all three artists, and will certainly be reflected in the works created.
